WELCOME!

Welcome to my blog! I'm Lane Shields, a Transition Specialist & Special Educator. I'm autistic and ADHD, so I've always related well to my neurodivergent students.

I completed my Master's in Special Education (with a focus on significant needs, autism and behavior), as well as my Transition Leadership Specialist Certificate, while teaching in Boston, MA.

I lived most of my adult life in Boston, but recently relocated to the West Coast.

I have 15 years of experience doing direct services in the Special Education field. I have worked in the residential, home services, hospital, private and public school settings.

I most recently taught life, job and transition skills for 10 years at an amazing public high school, where my love for creating curriculum began. I am a very organized person, and I craved being able to find lessons and activities that built upon each other, catered to transition aged youth, yet worked for a wide range of high needs students.

So – I started creating my own scaffolded units!

I enjoy helping my neurodivergent community learn the life & vocational skills necessary to transition into adulthood.

I am also personally passionate about disability advocacy, and enjoy teaching the general public about neurodiversity, ableism, and other disability topics.

Outside of teaching, I love spending time in the woods, mountains or water, and create both music & art!
